life worth living
What are we doing here? Are we just passing time?
Are we looking to future plans to satisfy?
I hear the same things over and over, and often here myself repeating them...
"I can't wait to be done with school," "When I grow up I want to be such and such," "This job is just temporary, I won't be here forever," "I can't wait to be married,", "I'm bored"
There's always going to be something to wait and plan for, and once you attain it... you'll just want something else. Do you think Jesus was ever bored?
This life is a gift, how are we using it (every breath, every moment) to bring Him glory?
James 4:13-17 says this:
Now listen, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money." Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, "If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that." As it is, you boast and brag. All such boasting is evil. Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins.
Christ and Christ alone will bring the peace, joy, and fulfillment that you and I long for. No amount of success, no amount of money, no amount of friends, no job... they are all meaningless (worthless) compared with Him.
Philippians 3:8
What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ.
We were never called to preserve our own lives, or to aspire to the most easy/comfortable existence possible. Instead we are called to DIE, to lose our lives for His names sake. We are called to serve and to love others, even at the cost of our own lives. In return His promise is eternity with Him, and a life (here and now) worth living.
1 Timothy 6:11;19
But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.
...so that you may take hold of the life that is truly life.
